Twins on the Go – Act 5 Blackout

It has been another amazing year with my beautiful family, and we have indeed been on the go!

My entries have been more erratic since the summer because we have been so busy, but I have notes all over the place to compile a scrapbook for you girls when you’re old enough to enjoy this on your own.   I made a commitment once kindergarten started to post at least once a month.   I’m just squeezing this one in on the last day of the year ;)   Next year, I will try our new plan and see how you and Nana like that.

2011 was memorable for our family for so many reasons!   I figured what better way to conclude Act 5 than with another Twins on the Go Top 10 – this time one from each of the girls on the go!

10.  I will always remember my first fall at HITS with Trouble this summer and am looking forward to overcoming my apprehension and getting back in the ring this winter.

9.   My midnight runs with Yvonne.

8.   2011 marked my final year of coaching a brilliant group of young ladies whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with for seven years now.    To have watched them grow from scrawny 10 year olds, some of whom had never played basketball, to the mature athletes they are today – some of whom are heading on to collegiate competition – has been a blessing as a coach.   I will miss them next year.

7.   Working side by side with hubby to create Dolphin Organics, it brought us both sheer joy to hold our very own product in our hands for the first time.   It has been even more enjoyable meeting so many wonderful people along the way.    Many thanks to our Dolphin Moms and all our fans out there!!

6.  I have always been one to treasure my relationships with my athletes.   I have a shoebox full of cards and letters from athletes and their parents thanking me for the difference I have made in their lives.    I pull them out every now and then when I get frustrated with coaching or question why I miss so much valuable time with my family to spend time with someone else’s daughters.   This year, for the first time, I coached alongside one of my former players.   Nothing has been more rewarding as a coach than mentoring an athlete for five years, sharing a bench with her as an assistant coach and most importantly, building a lifelong friendship.

5.   On a lovely sunny day in the hills of Vermont, my beautiful Ali began her new life with Daniel.

4.   One day, Victoria declared “My tooth is wiggly.”  A couple of weeks later, my little girl lost her first tooth.

3.   After many years of prayers, loss and triumph, my sister and her husband are welcoming their first baby, Zoie.

2.   My two babies headed off to kindergarten for five full days/week this fall.   I don’t know which is more memorable, the sight of them disappearing in the distance on the big yellow bus or the realization that they’re not babies anymore.

1.    2011 is the year I hit the big 4-0.   Thanks a million to everyone who made an end-of-year donation to Friends of Karen in honor of my 40th!  As put so eloquently by a dear friend of mine, 40 is not old but rather sophisticated and mature.   I will now sit around the board tables not as the young whippersnapper in the room who doesn’t know anything nor as the old fart who doesn’t know anything.   Somehow, I’ve evolved into this era of well-respected, middle-aged women who balance work and family and carry their years well.
